As part of my new niche site experiment, I wanted to see if playing around on Instagram or Tik Tok would yield any decent results in terms of engagement.
I’ve slowly started to hate Instagram more and more as I watch minimalgoods metrics drop slowly over time. Still, I was curious to see how this new account would perform if I only focused on video content with a brand-new account.
For this test, I created similar posts using the same music, content, and timing but made sure I created them natively inside each respective app.
I posted each video at 8 am every day for ten days, and this is what I ended up with.

I mean…come on.
I expected Tik Tok to perform better, but I wasn’t expecting anything near these results.
It’s evident that Tik Tok is eating Instagram’s lunch at this point, but finally understanding the difference firsthand is pretty eye-opening.
I’m just happy my decision to want to ditch IG is validated at this point, and I am happy to spend my time somewhere else where it matters.
